Over the past two decades, important work in many academic disciplines has increasingly begun to break down many of the regional and national boundaries that have long characterized the study of the Americas. Future research and curriculum on the hemisphere will, no doubt, continue to emphasize comparative and cross regional studies. What happens to U.S. and Americas literary and cultural studies if we recognize the asymmetry and interdependency of nation-state development throughout the hemisphere?
