Popis: | The title compound was known to be a powerful acaricide. Its activity is light-dependent, but unlike most other phototoxic molecules, it displays significant selectivity. For example, it is extremely active against first-instar larvae of the mosquito Aedes aegypti , but not against fathead minnows or eggs of Drosophila melanogaster , and very little against Escherichia coli . Damage to cell membranes was demonstrated in human erythrocytes in vitro . The phototoxicity is oxygen dependent. The formation of singlet oxygen takes place easily in ethanol, but not in water, where the formation of superoxide anion was observed. Electron transfer reactions from the excited sensitizer could also be demonstrated in alcohol, but only in the absence of oxygen. |
