Satellite images have been more and more popularly used in our daily life. The Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) had proposed an image data compression standard (CCSDS-IDC) for satellite image compression which is the most widely implemented in hardware. This standard provides good compression performance. Various compression techniques nowadays uses wavelet transformed data for better compression performance. Hence in this paper, we observe the results of wavelet and inverse wavelet transform mentioned in CCSDS-IDC standard on three different platforms i.e. MATLAB, Python-OpenCV and Python-PIL (Python Image Library) and compare their time efficiency. More time efficient implementation can be further used in real time hardware applications such as military applications where we can use this to capture and transmit required satellite images during warfare activities or during situations like natural calamities. |
