Popis: We examined the effect of the water content in the ointment on the stability of aspirin in an effort to improve the stability of aspirin washable ointment which we previously reported (JJHP 17 335 (1991)). The measurement of water content of ointments showed that the smaller the water content the more stabilized is the aspirin in ointment. The half-life of aspirin in ointment became longer when polyoxyethylenehydrogenated castor oil 60 was used instead of glyceryl monostearate, and isopropanol instead of crotamiton as the aspirin solvent. The aspirin in the ointment comprising of dehydrated ingredients was found to be stable for at least two months even at room temperature.
