The idea of generation has been used as a theoretical construct to understand the characteristics of age groups born in the same historical period. Currently, children born from 2010 onwards are considered to form generation Alpha, which has access to digital information and communication technologies from an early age. In this article, we develop a discussion that addresses the theme of the Alpha generation to problematize initial teacher education. An empirical study was conducted with 57 teacher degree undergraduates from a federal public university in Brazil. The participants’ answers indicate that they are aware of the new generations’ challenges and critically analyze the formative processes they access. |
