Popis: | SummaryThe authors have sought for an effective and harmless method of provoking a bronchial stenosis. They give the details of five experiments performed in dogs. They produced a complete stenosis of bronchi, whose diameter reached sometimes 7 or 8 mm, by application of KOH (10 or 20 %), under broncho- scopic control. The local reactions were very slight; the general condition remained excellent; the post mortem examination confirmed the absence of bronchial necrosis and of persisting ulceration of mucous membranes, although the contact had lasted sometimes five minutes. On the contrary one could observe the early apparition of scar tissue, covered by bronchial epithelium. These observations suggest the possibility of utilising that substance in human to close bronchial fistulas after pneumectomy or even draining bronchi in the treatment of apical cavities by Mauer’s method. |
