Popis: Opioids have been used for centuries for their analgesic and antidiarrheal properties. However, their use can be severely limited by side-effects including constipation. This thesis examined novel concepts of how opioids regulate gut function. It identified potential approaches through which opioid therapeutics with reduced gastrointestinal side-effects may be developed.
