Popis: The plating parameter dependence of optical properties and thermal stability of electrodeposited black chrome solar selective surfaces is studied using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. Subsequent optimization of coating properties through the response equations generated produce coatings that have low absorptance properties and a grey appearance. The reason for this occurrence is investigated through a more detailed study of the effects of the more important plating parameters in the vicinity of the predicted optimum set of parameters. An anomaly in resulting optical properties is identified and defined with respect to the process variables, Chrom-Onyx MR addition reagent concentration and current density of deposition. A set of apparent optimum plating variables is chosen for combined desired optical properties and maximum (prsumably) thermal stability. Structural features which exhibit significant variation with alterations of deposition parameters, primarily bath composition, are film thickness, nodule size, extent and size of nodule clusters, and extent and size of chromium crystallite agglomerates.
