Bioremediation of Thiocyanate from Coke-Oven Wastewater Using a Novel Cyanobacterial Strain and Synthesis of Biomolecules

Popis: In the present study bioremediation of thiocyanate from coke-oven wastewater using a cyanobacterial strain Leptolyngbya foveolauram was done. Kinetic study for the bioremediation of thiocyanate was done by varying the initial concentration of thiocyanate from 10 to 250 mg/L while other parameters were kept constant as inoculum size of 10% and pH 10. Concentrations of biomolecules viz., carbohydrate, protein and lipid in the cyanobacterial strain are also measured during remediation of thiocyanate. Results revealed that 100% and 78.20% of thiocyanate has been remediated in synthetic wastewater with initial thiocyanate concentration of 10 and 50 mg/L respectively. Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) analysis was studied and compared with native strain and thiocyanate treated one.
