Popis: It is not the first time that a coronavirus has plagued several countries in the world. The 2012 MERS-CoV was a clear example of how the virus has the ability to adapt and spread across the globe. In wuhan, China, a new threat has emerged, SARS-CoV-2, which has reached global scales, offers a new challenge for healthcare professionals. Little is known about the consequences secondary to infection by the virus. It is known that the disease can develop a cytokine storm through a cascade of responses leading the patient to develop conditions secondary to infection. This study suggests that this cytokine storm may lead the patient to degeneration of the myelin sheath, resulting in Guillain-barré syndrome. The study aims to compare two historical pandemics, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, in order to argue about the virus's ability to worsen the clinical picture and present a possible mechanism for myelin sheath injury.
