It was found that porphyrin could photo-decompose and serum protein could absorb the fluorescence emitted from porphyrin. . The serum fluorescence was analyzed by optical waveguide technology and necessary sample volume wasdecreased from lml to O.05m1 and good signal-noise ratio was got. Keywords: serum fluorescence, cancer diagnosis, optical waveguide. 1. INTRODUCTIONIt has been found that metabolism of porphyrin in cancer patients was abnonnal'1. The porphyrin has good luminescence feature and therefore, cancer can be diagnosed by detecting porphyrin in serum with fluorescence21. Becausethe concentration of porphyrin in serum is very small, i.e. at level of about 1 08 d porphyrin can photo-decompose andserum protein could absorb the fluorescence emitted from porphyrin, it is difficult to detect the fluorescence by increasingintensity of excited light source or sample volumes as usual. Consequently, waveguide technology was used to analyze thefluorescence of serum31. 2. MATERIALS AND METHOD2.1. fluorescence analysis by optical waveguide |
