| Popis: | Strain measurements in orthopaedic biomechancis often involve bone with its characteristic anisotropic mechanical properties. Photoelastic coatings offer one mechanism for monitoring the full-field distribution of shear strains on the bone. These coatings are ideally suited for monitoring areas involving strain concentrations. The technique, however, involves certain limitations such as reinforcement of the test-piece. The strengths and limitations of the technique are discussed in terms of references in both the engineering and orthopaedic literature. |
