Popis: Hydroxylation of 2,4,6-trideuteriotoluene by O(3P) atoms gave mixtures of tri- and di-deuteriocresol in liquid phase and in gas phase. The retention values of deuterium of aromatic ring in cresols produced by the hydroxylation were similar to those reported with microsomes. The mechanism of the NIH shift via a σ-complex intermediate is proposed.
