Popis: Modern agriculture depends on a continuous stream of new knowledge if it is to remain productive, competitive and profitable. Similarly, rural communities need to have well founded education and infrastructure systems to be viable and provide opportunities for their citizens to enjoy economic benefits. Globally, different countries have evolved both unique and complementary systems to serve the science and education needs of their agricultural and rural communities. This paper attempts to identify some of the conditions necessary to ensure that rural communities are provided with a knowledge-based science and education system for the creation of a successful agricultural sector.
