Popis: The purpose of this paper is to introduce CACOHIS a Computer Aided Community Oral Health Information System, a system developed under the Exploratory AIM programme of the EC Commission.(1) It makes the following contribution to Medical Informatics: 1. In the Oral Health area: (2) (a) It delineates the oral health requirements of Oral Health Physicians taking cognizance of international and WHO standards. (b) It has established internationally respected criteria for critical, relevant and meaningful information for application in Community Oral Health environments having regard to these specifications and standards. (c) It provides General Managers, Third Party Funding Agencies, Clinical Manager, Clinicians and their support staff with information of a standardised nature to enable them to make judgements on the changed normative need of the population to be served by the particular service. (d) It enables Health Services Managers at a senior level to make adjustments in resource allocation, having regard to standardised, calibrated, verified information of an internationally acceptable nature. Senior Managers will be able to collate, analyze and compare this information with information from other health care systems or agencies, generated by this AIM system and approach. (e) It facilitates direct data entry into computers in field and clinical environments, in a standardised manner, thus minimising error at the point of data input.
