Popis: | 1. 1. Mongolian gerbil tryptophan oxygenase activity is essentially undetectable in the untreated animal, is not increased by stress or glucocorticoid administration, but rises significantly following injection of pharmacological doses of tryptophan. 2. 2. Increased apoenzyme conjugation and inhibition by actinomycin D and cycloheximide characterize the tryptophan-induced increase. 3. 3. Gerbil formamidase activity is significant in the untreated animal and the level is not altered by stress, glucocorticoids, or tryptophan. Formamidase activity develops more slowly in the perinatal gerbil than in the young rat. 4. 4. Important differences between the rat and gerbil with regard to these enzymes are emphasized. |
