392 IMPORT OF TINEA CAPITIS FROM THE MEDITERRANEAN, AN EPIDEMIC OCCURRENCE IN ROTTERDAM-WEST, THE NETHERLANDS

Popis: | In 1993 tinea capitis was diagnosed in 17 index-cases in 2 hospitals in Rotterdam. Six different fungi were determined, of which Microsporum [M] audouinii most frequent (6 times). Anthropophilic fungal infections in the Netherlands are especially seen in children from the Mediterranean. Four index-cases caused by M audouinii. Trichophyton [T] mentagrophytes or T schoenleinii, had minimal 9 infected contacts (familymembers, schoolchildren). The epidemic occurrence could be delineated to a limited area round a school as primary source in Rotterdam-West. |
