Popis: | Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in valgus knees is a surgical challenge. This article describes our surgical technique and evaluates the long term outcomes of TKA in valgus knees. We found significant improvement in tibiofemoral angle, range of motion and HSS score post-operatively. Outcomes were comparable amongst osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis patients. Complications were encountered in 16% of cases. Overall 15-year implant survival rate was 90.52%. Younger age, obesity and severe deformity were associated with higher risk of failure. Good clinical outcomes with satisfactory long term implant survival rates can be obtained in most cases of valgus TKA using standard medial parapatellar approach, unconstrained implants and judicious peri-articular soft tissue release. |
