Popis: This article provides an overview of essential aspects of systems development, including quality assurance and testing, in Internet times. Both areas - systems development and the Internet - are dramatically changing and are closely interdependent. Induced by the Internet, systems development faces new challenges, especially new response time and quality requirements. Approaches like object, component and agent orientation, application mining, open systems development and the new lightweight development models must prove their suitability to solve the new kinds of problems. Two important technological developments in this context, namely peer-to-peer computing as well as the implementation of the so-called Web services, are introduced and their potential influence on systems development is analysed. The article concludes with a look at the resulting impacts on software quality and testing.
