Popis: A recent discourse analytical study, Ehrlich (1990), provides a welcome extension of the controversial work on represented speech and thought begun by Ann Banfield. The article reviews Banfield's findings and the critical comments and counterexamples that have appeared in the wake of Unspeakable Sentences. It then takes a close look at Ehrlich's new proposals for contextualizing represented speech and thought in an integrated model comprising point of view and reading strategies.
