The ceria (CeO2) nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical processing, due to its better control on particle size and morphology. The characterization techniques named High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) were carried out to confirm the formation of ceria nanoparticles. A uniform suspension of coconut oil added with ceria nanoparticles was formed using an ultrasonicator. Further, the fatty acids in coconut oil treated with Lithium Hydroxide (LiOH) salt in definite proportion resulted in formation of the desired Nano Lithium Grease (NLG). Finally, the tribological properties such as coefficient of friction (COF) and specific wear rate (SWR) of the formulated NLG was evaluated using a four-ball tester. The results envisioned the credibility of the same for future prospects in commercial applications. |
