| Popis: | Two patients with a chronic hypereosinophilic syndrome of eleven and seventeen years' duration are described. In both there was evidence of multisystem involvement leading to pulmonary insufficiency and hepatosplenomegaly. One patient apparently has significant cardiac involvement. No identifiable etiology has been found, and there has been no significant response to a variety of therapies. These cases do not fall into a readily identifiable syndrome. It is believed that they represent a chronic, relatively benign form of syndrome characterized by peripheral eosinophilia and multisystem eosinophilic infiltration. The exact role of the eosinophil in this syndrome and its cause or effect relationship are unknown. |
