Popis: | Work with a group of activists of Democratic Russia (hereafter called DR) conducted between December 1991 and March 1992, using the method of "sociological intervention," has substantially enriched our understanding of the character of the democratic movement, its main orientation, its role in destroying the pillars of totalitarianism and effecting the subsequent changes in Russian society, and lastly (but certainly not least important!) its strengths and weaknesses. Our findings permit us to make some major refinements in the way this movement is interpreted, and indicate that it should be regarded not only as a sociopolitical movement (directed toward changes in the political order of society and/or in expelling the former ruling elite from the sphere of government), but above all as a social and moral movement (aimed at bringing about a basic transformation of the entire social system and effecting a similarly radical renewal of society's moral foundations). |
