Popis: Substantial indigenous abundances of siderophile elements have been found to be present in the lunar highlands. The abundances of 13 siderophile elements in the parental magma of the highlands crust were estimated by using a simple model whereby the Apollo 16 highlands were regarded as being a mixture of three components (i.e. cumulus plagioclase + intercumulus magma that was parentel to the highlands crust + meteoritic contamination by ordinary chondrites). The parental magma of the highlands was found to possess abundances of siderophile elements that were generally similar to the abundances of the unequivocally indigenous siderophile elements in primitive, low-Ti mare basalts. This striking similarity implies that these estimated abundances in the parental highlands magma are truly indigenous, and also supports the basic validity of our simple model.
