A two dimensional acousto-optic (AO) signal processor was developed using a single fourchannel surface a coustic wave (SAW) delay line. The single and double diffraction e fficiencies, acoustic isolation of multiple signals (copropagating and counter-propagat ing), and A0 interaction bandwidth of this SAW device were compared with existing two-channel SAW delay lines. An anomalous optical field polarization dependence in the A0 interaction in lithium niobate was observed in y cut lithium niobate. This anomalous polarization dependence enhanced the bandwidth of the A0 interaction. This bandwidfh expansion was exploited to increase t he dynamic range of the m ultiple product correlator . |
