Popis: Over the last decades, technology has become an essential part of the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus. After the discovery of insulin in 1920, the introduction of home blood glucose measurements (HBGM) took half a century [1, 2]. From the 1980s onwards, the technology for home setting progressed by the introduction of HBGM devices. In the same period, the continuous subcutaneous insulin pumps (CSII) were developed [3–7]. Only short-acting insulin administered at a continuous basal rate with meal adjusted extra doses through a push on the button without extra injections seemed the best way forward. One should keep in mind, however, that time, place, nor duration of action of the insulins were completely matching the normal situation.
