Summary form only given, as follows. Plasmas which generate XeCl excimer radiation are particularly promising because of the large cross-section for stimulated emission and the relatively long lifetime of the excimer state. Experimental studies were performed on XeCl microhollow cathode discharge sources, 200 micrometer in diameter and 500 micrometer apart arranged in the form of a string up to 1 cm in length. The discharge array where the individual discharges were operated in the abnormal glow mode, was found to be stable and scaleable in length. Results of experiments in dc and pulsed mode with respect to optical emission at 308 nm will be reported. |
