Popis: Considering the controversies in the study of inflammatory pulpal pathology, with respect to their clinical and histopathological diagnoses, which are difficult to correlate, the objective of this research was to interrelate the subjective and objective semi-technical with the microscopic analysis in 40 teeth classified into groups: 1) normal pulp, 2) reversible pulpitis, 3) pulp in the transition phase, and 4) irreversible pulpitis. The dental pulps were excised, fixed in 10% formalin, and processed histologically and stained by hematoxylin/eosin. It was observed that as the pain symptoms increase, histologically, the inflammatory process also intensifies, evolving throughout the pulp tissue in the coronary, middle, and apical regions. From the study it was concluded that 1) clinically the subjective and objective semi-technical were essential to guide the researcher in the decision on the reversibility or irreversibility of the pulp lesion, 2) as the painful process intensified histologically, predominantly chronic inflammatory changes, and 3) based on the clinical and histologic diagnosis and taking into account the affected area observed, it is possible to make an interrelation of both, allowing the diagnosis of the inflammatory stage and suggesting the therapeutic option to be instituted.
