The low temperature transport properties of small disordered normal conductors exhibit a wealth of quantum interference phenomena. When the sample size becomes comparable to the distance electrons can propagate without losing phase coherence, these quantum interference effects manifest themselves as random conductance fluctuations in a wire and periodic oscillations in a loop as the magnetic field applied to the sample is changed. We will briefly review the current status of this field by discussing the origin of these quantum interference effects and how the measurement technique affects the details of the data analysis. A discussion of the non-local properties of small structures is presented as well as some of the problems associated with determining the phase coherence length. |
