Role of molecular symmetry in inverse magnetochiral birefringence

Popis: The constant magnetization is calculated which is induced in optically active isotropic media by arbitrarily polarized light. The mechanisms responsible for the effect are described in terms of magnetic-dipole and electric-quadrupole polarizability tensors. The point group symmetries of molecules admitting these mechanisms are determined.
