Popis: | The theoretical analysis deals with the hybrid effect in composites under longitudinal compression. The analysis is based on the instability of different types of fibers on a common elastic foundation of the matrix material. It depends on the elasticity of the matrix and the flexural stiffness of fibers. The model assumes that instability in the low flexural stiffness fiber occurs first. As the load is further increased, instability in the high flexural stiffness fiber follows, and it results in the failure of the composite. The transverse deformation of the matrix induced by the low flexural stiffness fibers enhances the stability of high flexural stiffness fibers in compression. Evaluation of the critical compressive load (stress) has been made. It is shown that a synergistic effect in compressive strength can be realized through fiber hybridization. |
