Popis: Causes of inaccuracy in determining diffusion coefficients in liquid metals by the capillary-reservoir technique have been investigated. Diffusion of silver in alloys of silver in liquid tin was chosen as a typical system. Examination was made of effects caused by stirring the reservoir, negative temperature gradients, and density gradients set up by differences in solute concentration between the liquid in the capillary tube and that in the reservoir. The results show that all three should be avoided if accurate data is to be obtained.
