The development of low cost, high functionality optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEICs) is seen as an attractive route to the realization of optical subscriber access links. As device functionality requirements increase it becomes important to fabricate these circuits so that each active component may be electrically isolated from its neighbors. Here we describe the fabrication and characterization of OEICs featuring DFB lasers, wavelength duplexers, and monitor photodiodes monolithically integrated on semiinsulating InP substrates, designed for high speed (622-Mbit/s) bidirectional access links in the 1300- and 1530-nm wavelength bands. |
