Popis: ONE of the major problems facing the poultry industry today is concerned with certain bone maladies occurring in growing chickens, rather loosely referred to in the literature as perosis, rickets, hock’s disease, leg weakness, and paralysis. The literature concerning this subject has been so voluminous that it would be inadvisable to present a complete review in this article. Furthermore, several bibliographies have been so complete that citations of references are unnecessary at this time. Suffice it to say that many of these reports have been based on the ratio of the inorganic calcium and phosphorus in the blood serum of chickens. Much valuable material has been made available by these carefully conducted investigations, but it can be safely said that the exact cause of the bone malformation and a satisfactory method of prevention have not been presented.
