A three-month-old male suckler calf presented with a history of acute recumbency, anorexia, hypersalivation and subsequent central blindness. The calf was in a group at grass near an old quarry, so concerns were raised regarding primary lead toxicity and supportive treatment implemented. Unfortunately, this treatment proved unsuccessful and the calf passed away. A damaged lead-acid car battery was later found in the field and postmortem testing of kidney tissue yielded lead levels of 22 mg/kg, with |
