Ionic structure of laminar flame at combustion of alcanes and their derivatives

Popis: Ion distribution in low pressure flames has been studied by mass spectrometry with molecular beam sampling. The fuels were: saturated hydrocarbons, alcohols, ethers, ketones, aldehyde and acids. It has been shown that the ionic composition of the flame front dependends weakly on the type of fuel, but strongly on the fuel/oxidant ratio. Heavy polycyclic ions have been detected upstream of the front not only with fuel-rich but also with stoichiometric and even lean mixtures. The composition of these ions depends on the nature of the fuel. Regularities in the formation of the ionic composition in this region have been established—they are determined by the chemical character of the fuel—the actual set of ions present is characteristic of the fuel molecule and the relative ion concentrations are influenced by its isomeric structure. The problem of ion formation in the inner zone of the flame is discussed.
