Popis: LiFeCl4 and LiAlCl4 have been prepared by direct reaction of FeCl3 and AlCl3 with LiCl. Crystallographic data show that both compounds are isostructural. For this reason it has been possible to obtain a solid solution LiAlxFe1−xCl4 with 0 < x ⩽ 1. Physical properties and particularly electrical conductivities are effected by the substitution of Fe3+ by Al3+. The conductivity is higher in disorded phases (for example LiAl0.25Fe0.75Cl4) than in the well-ordered phase (LiAl0.50Fe0.50Cl4). LiFeCl4 has been found to be antiferromagnetic. In solid solutions, the magnetic behaviour depends strongly upon the compositions, with the magnetic interaction decreasing with increasing x.
