On October 25-26, 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed changes to the federal laser performance standard at a public technical advisory committee meeting. One proposed change addressed the risk of injury caused by visual impairment such as distraction, glare and flashblindness from laser pointers aimed toward operators of aircraft, vehicles and watercraft.
