The present work was carried out to study the efficacy of chitosan and chitosan-povidone iodine composite films for cutaneous wound healing in rabbits. Following optimization of different concentrations, the study was planned on 18 rabbits divided into three groups of six animals each. Group I animals were kept as control, group II were applied with chitosan films and group III received chitosan-povidone iodine films over the cutaneous wounds created. Apart from the healing time, histopathology, physiological parameter evaluation, biochemical evaluation with special reference to iron, copper and zinc in granulation tissue were conducted. Since these elements play a significant role in wound healing, alteration in their levels affect the healing process. This present paper deals with alteration or fluctuation of these trace elements in granulation tissue during wound healing. |
