Popis: | A study on species composition, richness, diversity, evenness and multivariate analysis of mollusks associated to the phytal of the algae Hypnea musciformis, Sargassum cymosum and Ulva fasciata was carried out in the Parana State littoral, Brazil. The seasonal fluctuation of these indexes was also treated. Samples of these algae were obtained in the rocky surface at Caioba Beach, municipality of Matinhos, PR, in November/2005, March/2006, June/2006 and September/2006. The air temperature oscillated from 16oC (June) to 24oC (March). A total of 902 mollusks were recorded, from which 831 bivalves and 71 gastropods; most of them were small species or juveniles of sessile species. The highest density and species richness were obtained in H. musciformis (18.17 ind.g-1 and 17 species), followed by S. cymosum (2.93 ind.g-1 and 7 species) and U. fasciata (2.58 ind.g-1 and 14 species): the density was directly related to the ramification degree of the alga-substratum. The malacofauna presented higher abundance in the spring. The average species diversity and evenness (0.87 and 0.47 for S. cymosum; 1.37 and 0.43 for H. musciformis and 2.20 and 0.78 for U. fasciata) were low due to the strong dominance of juveniles of the bivalve Perna perna in these phytals. The dominance of this species was also decisive in the formation of groups in the similarity analysis. The present work points out the importance of this ecosystem as a nursery ground for many mollusks including those of commercially valuable |
