Popis: | Rates of carbaryl, methomyl, methyl parathion and toxaphene + methyl parathion were determined that would result in 80% control (48 h posttreatment) of Epilachna varivestis Mulsant, Plathypena scabra (F.), Heliothis zea (Boddie), and Anticarsia gemmatatis Hubner. Tests were conducted on a regional basis in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Rates much lower than those recommended prior to 1972 gave effective pest control. Minimum effective rates (80% control compared to untreated checks) for these insects were obtained with carbaryl at 0.50 lb AI/acre or less, methomyl at 0.13 lb or less, methyl parathion at 0.25–1.00 lb (high rate for H. zea ), and toxaphene + methyl parathion at 0.25 + 0.13 to 1.00 + 0.50 lb. Inclusion of such rates in state recommendations should greatly reduce the amount of insecticides applied to soybeans. |
