Equilibrium and kinetic studies of the interaction of [RuIII(EDTAH)(H2O)]with CO

Popis: Interaction of [Ru(EDTAH)(H 2 O)] ( 1 ), MHL(H 2 O), with CO in aqueous solution was investigated by potentiometry, spectrophotometry and electrochemistry. Complex 1 reacted with CO in the pH range 2–3.5 to form the protonated and the normal carbonyl complexes, MHLCO ( 2 ) and MLCO ( 3 ), respectively (L = EDTA, HL = EDTAH). Complex 3 combined with 1 to form the μ-COμ-OH dimer, [ML(CO)(OH)ML] ( 4 ). The log of the stability constants, determined spectrophotometrically, for the formation of complexes 2 , 3 and 4 at 25°C (μ = 0.1 M) are 2.4, 4.9 and 3.72, respectively. The kinetics of the formation of complexes 2 – 4 were studied spectrophotometrically. The complexes constitute the first series of ruthenium(III)—carbonyls in aqueous solution, by the direct interaction of a soluble aquo Ru III —EDTA complex with CO.
