Popis: Structural deficiencies create barriers to the practice of democracy. Many could be easily solved by simple legal changes if we had the political will. In the 2020 election we experimented with new ways of voting and expanded the use of mail-in ballots and early voting to limit the spread of COVID-19. This undoubtedly will change the ways in which we vote in the future. Other structures that need to be changed include the Electoral College, the undemocratic U.S. Senate, gerrymandering, term limits, and voter suppression; we also need to enact automatic voter registration more broadly and restore election integrity. Locally, we must end sham candidates, poor election dates, and unfair judicial elections. All of these structural problems undermine democracy and can be fixed incrementally if there is the political will to do so.
