Propellers are very often used to produce necessary thrust for propelling aircraft especially for low speed flights. It is because of its higher propulsion efficiency in comparison with jet engines at these low speeds. This work describes conceptual design of a self-driven propeller, where the energy needed for its rotational movement is supplied only by compressed air. Such propelling device could be very beneficial for a lot of reasons, e.g. lightweight design, high power, improved airflow on the surfaces of propeller blade airfoils, lower aerodynamic drag force. This study also reveal some disadvantages connected with low efficiency of jet flow used for driving the propeller. Future design improvements are also described at the end of this paper. |
