Popis: | LED lighting uses typically switched mode power supply (SMPS) techniques to generate the appropriate LED voltage and current out of high mains voltages. A variety of SMPS controllers is available on the market for this application. Most of these controllers are using analog techniques to control the switching. New generation of controllers uses digital elements like AD converters and micro controller cores. They allow firmware implementation of control algorithms customized for target applications and thus more flexibility for the customers. This article describes the basic function of an SMPS controller using flyback operation for LED lighting application and explains the advantages of the new generation digital and programmable SMPS solution for LED lighting compared to the traditional analog approach. |
