We discuss the objectives of imaging stellar surfaces and coronae and possible methods and recent results that allow one to derive images of active structures and phenomena using the techniques of rotational modulation, tomography, eclipse mapping, Doppler imaging and interfer-ometry with compact or long baselines. We also discuss the prospects for using these methods in the future to measure the spatial extent of stellar coronae at different temperatures, study circumstellar structures, trace flares and coronal energetic phenomena, and study extended coronae and mass transfer in close active binaries. |
