Popis: | Curricular integration has become an important focus in teacher education programs. This article describes a project conducted with 30 preservice teachers, in which they explored integration through a field-based experience with children in grades four and five. The authors describe the background of the project, its goals, and immediate outcomes. The article traces the authors' thinking and reflections on curricular integration as they compare two approaches. The power of conceptual integration to open possibilities for learners to make important connections across disciplines is highlighted. The authors identify the strengths of a conceptually-based model for integration, and suggest that collaboration by university instructors as they teach together can have a positive impact on the experiences of preservice teachers. |
