Popis: | Background Simulation-based experiences provide students with a safe learning environment. This study aimed to explore the feelings, emotions, and experiences of embedded participants playing the role of victims in a disaster scenario. Method This descriptive study, which utilized a qualitative research design, was conducted with 20 third-year students who were enrolled in the nursing school of a university in the 2014 Fall and 2015 Spring terms. Data collected by focus group interviews were analyzed using Malterud's systematic text condensation method. Results Based on the experiences of embedded participants in their simulation-based roles, three main themes, “initial reactions,” “adaptation,” and “inference”, and six subthemes were identified. Conclusions The learning experience of the nursing students as embedded participants evolved from feelings of anxiety and excitement to the recognition that simulation-based learning is instructive and beneficial for raising awareness. |
