Popis: In a case of discrete focal and segmental glomerulonephritis, branching tubular structures were observed within dilatated cisternae of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of endothelial cells from glomerular and peritubular capillaries. These structures were previously described in a variety of nephropathies, especially in lupus nephritis, in several neoplasms, and in a number of viral infections. Some authors considered them as viral or virus-like and others as nonviral in nature. The present observation indicates that the tubules originate from the ER as invaginations, and that they represent proliferated ER membranes rather than viral particles.
