The selective action of the highly polar modifier, methyl cellulose, on the structure of segmented polyurethane has been demonstrated in rheological and thermomechanical studies. Presumably by localization in the rigid block regions, the methyl cellulose promotes microphase separation in the segmented polyurethane resulting in a sharp increase in the segmental mobility of the rigid blocks, an increase in strain capacity of the polyurethane, and a change in the activation energy of viscous flow. |
